Dear brothers and sisters in our Lord Jesus,
As I was looking out over the beautiful bay by bi-centennial tower the other morning, I stood admiring 7 little fishing boats out on the water. When you don’t know what to do and need to think, just go fishing like the Disciples did in John 21. Besides this there were about 6 fishermen by Dobbin’s landing casting out their lines. One caught a fish while I watched. And then there was that calmness of the water. Water that reminded me of Moses and one or our former Chinese students named Marshal Lu…You remember the birth of Moses…
Exodus 2:1-3 English Standard Version (ESV)
2 Now a man from the house of Levi went and took as his wife a Levite woman. 2 The woman conceived and bore a son, and when she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him three months. 3 When she could hide him no longer, she took for him a basket made of bulrushes and daubed it with bitumen and pitch. She put the child in it and placed it among the reeds by the river bank.
The water was calm on that day by the reeds on the river bank. Calm enough for Pharaoh’s daughter to be out there along with her servants. Moses had been hidden for three months until the day came when Mom couldn’t hide him any longer. She took a risk, trusted God, put her baby in a basket, and let Miriam watch and see what would happen. You know the rest of the story—Moses receives his name from Pharaoh’s daughter, grows up in court, and eventually becomes the leader who guides God’s people to the promised land.
Our Chinese student who lived with us while attending Martin Luther High in Greendale, Wisconsin has a similar story. He like Moses had to be hidden after his birth with his aunt and uncle in China.
Marshal Lu you see was the second child and when he was born it was illegal to have 2 children in China. His real father worked in the government. He would have not only lost his job but would have been arrested and put into prison. The family loved both of their children. Their oldest was a girl. Their youngest was a boy.
Marshal came to America where he learned of Jesus Christ as His Savior. He lived with us one year. He was baptized at Hales Corners Lutheran Church. He graduated from Martin Luther High School. He now lives in America. Instead of returning to China, he stayed here to attend college. He is a Christian.
There are many Chinese and Asian Americans that have said “I by the grace of God believe in Jesus. I am an American, America is my home not China, not Japan, not South Korea, not Thailand, not Laos, but America is my home.”
They like Moses are glad to be here. It is difficult for them during this Virus just like it is for us. And many of them are glad to be here because they can own their own restaurant, they can have more than one child, they can worship at a Christian church that isn’t watched by the government, and they can even afford to give their children music or dance lessons. They are free.
It is good to know God has led them here in our land to be free with us.
As we approach the future together, we will all be more cautious about where virus and disease come from. We will all be hurting from the loss of work, finances, and changes. God will pull us out of the water and guide our future. We are in this together. When we don’t know what to do, we might find ourselves fishing, but then Jesus calls us back to the shore to be united together. John 21
Blessings to you during these days.

Dear members of Trinity,
This passage will guide us today: John 8:12-14 English Standard Version (ESV)
I Am the Light of the World
12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” 13 So the Pharisees said to him, “You are bearing witness about yourself; your testimony is not true.” 14 Jesus answered, “Even if I do bear witness about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going, but you do not know where I come from or where I am going.
I saw a great video on Facebook yesterday entitled, “all the lights are out on campus, but one remains on” from Concordia University Wisconsin. It begins with the overhead lights being turned off in the hallways, next the gymnasium, followed by a professor and secretary office, and then the lights are off in the student commons. All the lights on campus are turned off except one in the last seconds of the video.
It is the eternal flame in the chapel. Sometimes it is we call it the prayer candle, that our prayers may continue. That last light is significant for us.
The closing statements of the video are “While many are telling us to distance ourselves from one another, one person is calling us to come near—Jesus says, “I am the light of the world whoever follows me will not walk in darkness.”
God is calling our world, our country and ourselves to draw closer to Him in these days. For many generations we have been guided and blest from our Triune God, but it is true that people throughout the world and the United States over the past century have distanced themselves from a relationship with Jesus Christ.
God is calling us to be closer to Him than ever before.
God has always kept the light on for us. Better than that old commercial for a red roof Inn by the Tom Bodett—Jesus has kept the light on for us so that all who believe in Him have the hope of eternal life.
While we in our homes this evening will have lights in various rooms, televisions on, maybe a lab top or two it is also now the time to think how can we share more with others about Jesus the light of the world.
Let’s turn off some of those entertainment lights and share our little Gospel light with others.
Is there an elderly neighbor we could talk to on the telephone or church member or friend who might want to just hear another voice on the line tonight?
Are we the elderly person who is alone listening to one of those newscasts filled with fear and discouragement? Maybe it’s time to just turn off the television and pray.
We think about the family members in a different city. We pray for people in our church.
We pray for those first responders—we pray for our government—the president, vice-president, all of congress, our governor, our mayor and all other federal, state, and government officials.
We pray for those serving in the National Guard and our military personal—Some of our military have contracted the virus also.
Parents, it is also a good time to read a few Bible stories to the children. Maybe even sing some of the ones they have learned at church in Vacation Bible School. The top ten includes: Jesus loves me, He’s God the whole world in His hands, Jesus in the morning, This little light of mine, and Jesus loves the little children all the children of the world.
Jesus is our light in this time of darkness.
The last light that never goes out comes from God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. As your read the word continue on reflecting in the Gospel of John—God bless you. Amen.

Thursday 3/19/20
Dear Congregation members and Friends,
Over the past few days I can't help but remember my eldest sons confirmation verse. "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous, Do not be frightened and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9
It also came to my attention on Facebook post about Covid-19. The post used the initials and the number to express our faith in the Triune God. C-hrist, O-ver, V-iruses, & I-nfective, D-iseases--Joshua 1:9.
The implication is that we are to be strong like Joshua was in the Lord. As he was the successor to Moses, so each generation of Christians are successors in the faith. The same God that led Joshua on to victory will be the one that leads us on to victory. Each day we have is on earth is a gift from God so that we can live for Christ. "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31.
God is glorified with our lives as we continue to worship him in our homes, pray for our families, and as we choose to cast our anxieties on him and not live in fear but in faith. God can be glorified in where we eat or drink so others are not affected by a virus.
During this time the virus has caused us to give up many things during Lent. It has also given us time to pray with our family, to cherish them, and focus, really focus on God who leads us. Take some time today to memorize Joshua 1:9 and 1 Corinthians 10:31.
In John 4:46-54 Jesus heals the official's son. Jesus was asked by the official to go see the lad, but told the official it was not necessary, that the man should "go; your son will live." The man believed and by the grace of God the boy was healed before the official returned home.
You and I have not seen Jesus face to face, and by grace we have faith. God will heal many who have this virus. God will also take many home to be permanently healed from this sin of this world as they go to heaven. God has prevented many from even coming in contact with this virus. With God comes the healing for our bodies and our souls. And He will lead us like He did Joshua and the Israelites.
God bless you Hebrews13:5

A Song of Ascents.
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
4 Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade on your right hand.
6 The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
This Psalm from David is the one of reminding us the greatest Being in the universe is on our side. Many times David was against an army on a battlefield that was far greater in number than the many people in his own forces. David knew it was the Lord that helped Him and won the victories for Him over the many enemies David saw coming.
We have been facing an invisible enemy these past several months. God's angels has been protecting us through this time in ways we cannot even imagine. God has been leading us also with His Word and sacraments in worship. He continues to lead us through His word in our private devotions. This word from Psalm 121 rings true for every generation of believers now as it did in 9-11, Pear Harbor, and all of our battlefields like in Afghanistan--where does our help come from? It comes from the Lord. God is the warrior over all that is visible to us and all that is invisible to us.
I encourage you to read a chapter in the Gospel of John each day over the next several weeks so that you once again may be renewed with the word of God and the Love of our Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus has promised never to leave us Hebrews 13:5 and He conquers all Hebrews 13:6--what can man do to us? Nothing for our God rules eternally.
Now is the time that we begin also to Pray more not just for ourselves, but our church, our community, country, our leadership, and all the people in the world so they may be healed and that many may come to faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
We will resume church activities according to God's will after March 30th. May the Lord make this Easter on April 12th deeply meaningful for you and me.
God bless you!
Pastor Travis Schmidt

Proverbs 22: 6 Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Matthew 19:14: But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”
Dear Friend,
Have you felt like a child lately? Maybe you still like to have your box of Lucky Charm cereal or Fruit Loops for breakfast. Maybe the same old joke about how Moses makes coffee still makes you laugh. Maybe there are certain short stories from childhood you start to think about every fall because school is starting soon.
Whatever the case maybe, there is still a small child in each of us. This is the childlike faith in our heart. We still believe “Jesus Loves Me, this I know” why? Not because my parents or grandparents said so, not because the preacher told me long ago, and not because Fox or CNN said it’s on top of the latest religious poll; no, it is because the Bible tells me so.
And this book, the Bible, which is really 66 books of truth was placed upon our hands and minds by the grace of God. Someone taught us, someone prayed for us, and others are still explaining how Jesus loves us so.
Rally day for Trinity will be Sunday September 10th. It is for the kid in all of us. We rally and gather again around the word of God anticipating another spiritual school year in Sunday School, Bible Class, and worship. Now we travel through the Scriptures of Matthew and think about the Blueprints of God’s Plan in our lives. How will He use us to reach other people in our community? How will we be prepared for the future? Who will we invite to be part of the games of life with us and Jesus?
This fall we begin with rally day and gather again around the word and sacraments to hear the good news of Jesus. As we grow together in Christ consider these steps on your faith journey:
And anyways, how does Moses make his coffee? Well when you think about it, Hebrews it. Maybe that isn’t so funny to you, but it is to me. What makes you a child at heart?
God bless you this September 2017.—Pastor Travis Schmidt

3 He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
4 Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade on your right hand.
6 The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.

- Prayer. Remember to pray for the list of members in our bulletin every day by having their names on your night stand, refrigerator or some other convenient place. Pray for our country, our synod, and our local church about the present and the future. Pray for our military members and their families. Pray for your own personal spiritual growth.
- Worship. Join us in the coming months for the sermon series: Blue Prints for life. Starting Sunday September 10th we think of God’s plans for our walk with Him and the blueprints of our church building. The themes are: “All my life’s a circle”, “Let’s Level”, “The Numbers Add Up”, “Be Ready”, “Driving the Point Home”, “B.C.”, and “Measuring Up”. All of them based on Matthew’s Gospel according to our church’s three year series.
- Reflect. Think about your role in our local church and community. Remember Moses was 80 years old when he was sent back to Egypt to lead the children of Israel to the promised land. No matter our biological age we are children called to live for the glory of God. What talents and gifts do we still have to use for His kingdom?
And anyways, how does Moses make his coffee? Well when you think about it, Hebrews it. Maybe that isn’t so funny to you, but it is to me. What makes you a child at heart?
God bless you this September 2017.—Pastor Travis Schmidt
